- Day 12 -

Museums

Singapore National Museum was one of the most impressive musuems we have seen during the trip. Galleries of artifacts, videos, photographs, recollections and interviews about the experiences of various people through the events, complete with a personal electonic guide... It was quite a comprehensive walkthrough of Singapore's history from the early years of Temasek, the early struggles, to the recent history of PAP's nation building policies.

One sad truth about humans is they cannot remember very well. Or perhaps they can, but only there are too many other things on our minds, which we feel are more important. Research has shown that our recall rate of whatever we see is at most about 70% , which falls rapidly through the day. After several days, how much we can really remember really can vary a lot from about 50% to absolutely nothing. And it doesn't help that so many of us are tired from the overwhelming weariness from all that travelling, and all the other museums we have visited so far.

Was it a good museum? It certainly was. But were we in the top form to really learn from it?
